I have a 1997 Chrysler Cirrus LXi and i have to refill the oil like every 2-4 weeks. BIG oil consumption… well.. a few days ago I filled it and I didn't notice how much. Well it looks like its a quart over. I'm going to drain it tomorrow and refill but.. have I caused any damage with it in these few days? The light only comes on when its idling in drive. In park when the RPMS go up.. it goes off… or when I drive in general. I also noticed one time white smoke out of the exhaust too… someone please help me? This is my first car and I may have ruined it totally.

usually not enough oil will make the oil light come on. overfilling it is not good on the engine. it can blow seals and gaskets.
You must NEVER get cheap oil changes!!! Your engine burnsoil when your piston rings get full of SLUDGE from using cheap oil. It sludges up and clogs up the rings. They have no CHOICE but to leak, THERE is a CURE for this. Get a full MOTOR FLUSH and switch over to SYNTHETIC engine oil Your engine was DESIGNED to use it. FLush your intake manifold, throttle body and IAC valve (idle air control) with SEA FOAM spray that has a nozzle. Follow up with GUMOUT spray. WAtch the sludgy smoke come out of your tail pipe.! You have just CLEANED your piston rings. They WILL reseal quickly after the synthetic oil does it's job!! You CANNOT change what the previous owner did to your car engine, but you can CURE the illness left behind! Your engine light will GO OFF and STAY OFF. It is going on BECAUSE your IAC valve cannot do it's job. Any quicky lube can clean your IAC and THROTTLE Body for you for $20 or so. DEMAND to watch them do it. If they do NOT know where your IAC is, GO TO ANOTHER PLACE!!! THis is CRITICAL to a good functioning engine. A clean IAC will PREVENT O2 sensorr and converter failure from clogging up with carbon!!! GOOD LUCK!!!
Too much oil is not good. You can damage your engine like
it depends on how long youve been driven like that but its best that you drain the excess because if not you could blow seals and gaskets or something else…. do what you can to hurry and drain that oil and get it back to the proper level
One quart over won't cause any problems, especially if the engine consumes it as fast as you say. The oil light indicates low oil pressure, the oil pressure might actually be low or the sensor is just faulty. If it is low oil pressure it means you're using too thin of an oil or that the engine bearings are worn out. Check the oil often and don't let it get lower than the ADD mark on the dipstick.
